Projekt-Highlights

Georgian family home

Location: Edinburgh, UK
Interior Designer: BRIC Interiors
Project type: Private residence

This unique private commission had two aims – to create a luxurious and functional family home that also respected the architectural significance of the John Kinross-designed building. Using warmth and sensitivity we transformed this A-listed, grand Georgian house through classic design and present-day polish. The finished interior is elegant, welcoming and seamlessly incorporates the needs and personalities of the client’s family.

« The client wanted this space to feel like a personal retreat, blending luxury and comfort to make working from home a pleasure. Given the number of hours she spends in this office, it was important that every aspect of the room be enjoyable and reflective of her style. We created a space that feels luxurious and truly her own, while still meeting functional needs.

The transformation involved converting the front kitchen into an elegant office, divided by Crittall doors from a larger entertainment area with a galley kitchen. The design focused on creating a light, airy, and spacious feel, while a partition provides privacy for her work. The bookshelves became a focal point, showcasing the room's height and offering a beautiful display for personal items.

The brief centred around blending functionality with beauty, catering not only to the client’s work-life balance but also to the needs of her extended family. BRIC was tasked with designing a multi-functional space that could accommodate daily routines, offer storage, a home office, and guest quarters—all while ensuring the client felt like the space was a treat to work in, luxurious, and entirely her own. » − BRIC Interiors

« I chose this specific wallcovering due to my personal connection to pearls, which stems from my honeymoon in Tahiti, where I fell in love with black mother-of-pearl. This experience sparked a lifelong fascination, and when I came across this handmade wallcovering, it instantly transported me back to my travels. Its uniqueness and beauty made it the perfect choice for this room, offering something I had never seen before.

We opted for wallcoverings in this project to enhance the presence of the bookcase, a key feature in the room. The handmade mother-of-pearl wallcovering subtly reflects light, adding depth, texture, and a touch of sophistication. Its soft shimmer complements the luxurious materials used throughout the space, creating a refined and elegant atmosphere.

By incorporating this handmade wallcovering, we not only highlighted the bookcase but also allowed other accent pieces to stand out. It has become a constant talking point during our client’s meetings, as the beautiful background is often admired and always on display. The result is a cohesive, harmonious space where every element—from the furniture to the décor—feels beautifully tied together. The mother-of-pearl adds a layer of refinement, elevating the overall design and ensuring the room feels luxurious yet understated. » − BRIC Interiors

« The most exciting part of the design process for me is at the very beginning, when we start translating the client's vision into something tangible. This is where creativity truly flows—starting with mood boards that capture the essence of what the space could become. It’s thrilling to curate a blend of textures, colors, and design elements that not only reflect the client’s taste but also push boundaries to create something fresh and inspiring. Seeing the client's raw reaction when we present the mood boards is always a joy, especially as they dismantle them to touch and feel the products, examine the quality, and view the samples in different lights, appreciating the delicacy of certain materials.

Another exciting phase is creating CGI renderings, which really bring the design to life. These visuals allow the client to fully immerse themselves in the space and see how everything—from the layout to the smallest details—will come together. It’s incredibly rewarding to witness their excitement as their dream space starts to take shape through these lifelike renderings.

This process of transforming ideas into visuals is where the magic happens, acting as the bridge between concept and reality. It’s the moment when the entire journey becomes more engaging and collaborative, allowing the client to truly experience and be part of the design. » − BRIC Interiors

A house becomes a home when it is infused with personal touches that reflect the lives and personalities of its inhabitants. It transcends mere aesthetics, embracing warmth, coziness, and safety.
